Describe the corrosion environment
List chloride source and concentration where known, temperature, wet-dry cycles, process chemicals, cleaning agents, deposits, crevices, contact with other metals, and maintenance. Explain the consequence of corrosion or contamination. worldstainless provides general corrosion and grade-selection background, but project engineering must approve the material.
Do not select 316 solely because it sounds more resistant, and do not treat seamless construction as added corrosion protection. Grade, surface, fabrication, cleaning, and service all matter.
Use tube dimensions and the right standard
For tubing, state actual outside diameter, wall thickness, length, units, tolerances, straightness, ovality where needed, ends, cleanliness, and surface condition. If the design uses NPS and schedule, verify whether the item is actually pipe before contacting sellers.
Name the applicable product standard and edition. ASTM maintains different specifications for different product forms. Choose from the design basis, not because a standard mentions 316. State the seamless route where controlled.
Check mating parts and fabrication against the same dimensional basis. Fittings, seals, clamps, mandrels, and machining allowances can expose a small mismatch that a generic size label hides. Attach the controlled drawing and identify which dimensions are inspection gates.
Request current evidence without presuming supply
List the required order-specific records, examinations, marking, and identifier linkage. Ask the respondent to separate available, unavailable, and alternative items. A brochure about 316 or a sample certificate is not evidence for a delivered lot.
If a different alloy, route, wall, condition, or standard is proposed, preserve the original request and show the alternative on its own line. Engineering should review the effect on corrosion exposure, fabrication, interfaces, inspection, and service before procurement compares price or timing. A substitute is not accepted merely because it is described as equivalent.
